Story:
In
1984, British newspaper reporter Arthur Stuart (Bale)
is investigating the career and staged death of 1970s
glam rock star Brian Slade (Rhys Meyer). Through the
interviews, we - the viewers, see that the reporter had
been a fan back then. We see Brian Slades Bowie-like
transformation from Mod, to hippie-looking folky type,
to Glam alter-ego "Maxwell Demon." (Very Ziggy
Stardust) Part of the transformation comes from
seeing the band The Rats (pretty much Iggy & The
Stooges) with their head man, Curt Wylde (McGregor)
thrilling the same audience that boo-ed Slade off the
stage. "I despise him" Brian Slade says, "I wish I had
come up with it." (or something like that) Slade, with
American wife, Mandy (Collette), in tow, dumps his
manager(and gay lover, I think, it doesn't clarify),
Cecil (Feast) for Jerry Divine(Izzard). Divine
promises to make him a star and delivers. --Katy
